Silver and white tabby female kitten (with hints of brown) found in the early hours of Saturday morning near the Garden Centre in Poundbury. Has been given initial treatment by the vet yesterday for an abscess on her rear leg, but this will need further follow-up by her owners. We are unable to keep her for long so she will have to go to a cat rescue home soon if her owner can't be found.

Golfer Steve Walton is to undergo a mammoth fundraising effort for Julia's House - cycling 1,100 miles, visiting all the mainland UK Ryder Cup golf courses.
He will start from Came Down Golf Club near Dorchester - birthplace of the Ryder Cup - on Saturday, August 13th and finish up at Muirfield Golf Club in Scotland 10 days later.
He is hoping to cover 120 miles a day - punctures permitting!
An incredible effort when you realise that he has a pacemaker and a dodgy knee.
Steve, who is Captain of The Dorset Golf and Country Club in Bere Regis, set himself the challenge after choosing Julia's House as the club’s charity this year. He hopes to raise £10,000 for the hospice.
He originally considered cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, but then came up with the idea of a route that would combine his love of marathon cycle rides with his golfing interests.
“I don’t think anyone has cycled around the Ryder Cup courses before,“ explained Steve. “Came Down is a fitting starting point because of its strong Ryder Cup connection - it was where Samuel Ryder first got the idea encouraging young British professional golfers with a special tournament.”
Steve and his wife Jacquie have already raised £3,000 through a number of extra events to publicise the challenge. The couple are also holding a silent auction for a signed England cricket bat – complete with a certificate of authenticity – which was used in the England V. Australia One Day Test Series last year. To register a bid, email Jacquie on jacquie@swalton18.orangehome.co.uk

Cowden Allotments: Recently we are in the process of developing an area for allotments in which people who want to have membership can join for a small fee. We are hoping that these gardeners can share their skills with those less able. There will also be an area to fish if the gardener so wishes by the River Cern we are also going to build a barbeque area to encourage community connections.
Green Fingers Club: Another new development is that of our gardening club where we are sending out groups to help the elderly/disabled with their gardens. This is at no cost but a donation but would greatly appreciated this is the Charminster and local villages only.
Adopt an animal:
Ways in which YOU can support us to help care for our animals would be to adopt a donkey, goat or Shetland Pony for £20 a year and in return you are entitled to four free visits. This will help with the veterinary bills and the feed.

BIG-HEARTED cyclists from Wyke Regis are gearing up for 10 days of pushing pedals to raise cash for an 11-year-old boy battling cancer.
Dawn Haigh, 44, and her partner Graeme Rose, 49, are training hard for their sponsored cycle ride which will see them leave John O’Groats on 25 July 2011. Eight hundred miles and 10 days later, they hope to cross the finish line at Portland Bill.
The pair, who live in Shrubbery Lane, Wyke Regis, will be accompanied by Dawn's dad, Mick Connolly, who will be driving a camper van to give them support along the route.
Mrs Haigh, who works as a fitness instructor and lifeguard at Osprey Leisure Centre, held a coffee morning in her garden earlier this month, which raised £500.
She said: ‘My godson has got a rare form of bone cancer, Ewing’s sarcoma, and is only 11 years old. He has been very poorly since November 2010, and has now had an operation, but will keep on having to have chemotherapy until November this year.
‘His mum is his full time carer, taking him back and forth from Portland to hospital - so the money we raise will be to improve his quality of life day to day, and also hopefully to fund an experience of a lifetime.
‘Please help us help this little boy by sponsoring us on our website at www.portlandbillbikeathon.wordpress.com. We have also got a Facebook Page - type Portland Bill Bikeathon into the search box to find us. Thank you very much.’

The villagers of Buckland Newton, Pulham and surrounding areas are holding their sixth annual Crocus Walk - in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer - on Saturday 2 April, starting at 10.00am from the Halsey Arms, Pulham.
There will be a walk of only a few miles long, and a shorter walk as well, along part of the same route.
