The NHS Health Checks are for adults between the ages of 40 and 74. It will help you take action to reduce the risk of heart disease, strokes, type 2 diabetes, and kidney disease.
Each Health Check takes 20-30 minutes, and you'll have your weight, height, and blood pressure measured. You will also be asked simple questions about your health and lifestyle. There will also be a simple blood test to check your cholesterol level, and in most cases the results are available at the same appointment.
- Available to you if you are aged between 40 and 74*
- Not neccesary if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or have had a stroke as you will already be seeing your doctor.
- If you've had an NHS Health Check in the past five years, you don't need another one
*There are local pharmacies across the NHS Dorset area that provide NHS Health Checks. Some will operate slightly different age limits, for example 60-74 for those who meet the criteria above, or those aged 40-59 who smoke or are overweight and on means tested benefits.
Letters inviting patients are also beginning to be sent gradually, to small groups at a time, from many GP surgeries - if you get an invitation please say YES!
Alternatively you can call NHS Dorset Public Health Department on 01305 361185 and speak to Sarah Morton.
