Portland GP Takes On Gruelling Challenge
8:28am 21st June 2013
A GP from Portland will swim, cycle and run over 140 miles in one day for the Osprey Leisure Centre.
Paul Mason wants to raise over £40,000 pounds to get better family and disabled changing rooms for the island's centre, a registered charity.
He's taking part in The Ironman Austria event at the end of the month despite having several injuries, and told us more about it: "It's 2.4 mile swim in the lake, followed by a 112 mile bike ride, followed by a marathon to run - and it's got to be completed in 17 hours. I've done a lot of training in the last few months."
He added that he's been touched by the support he's received from his patients. "People are extremely loyal. I did the London Marathon in 2000 and I still get the odd one coming in and saying 'are you doing the Marathon this year?' so people have got long memories. And it's very nice of them to do that."
