IT Hub Opens At Dorchester Youth Centre
12:03am 23rd June 2013
A new IT hub has been opened at a Dorchester Youth advice centre.
The project, based at Routes, Young Persons Information, Advice and Guidance Centre, aims to help young people become digitally literate.
Workers at Routes noticed how many young people either did not have access to the internet or had extremely limited knowledge.
They therefore applied to the Microsoft Youth hubs initiative which is part of their 'Get On' scheme. This project aims to help 300,000 16-24 year olds to take steps towards getting a job in the next 3 years.
To involve the young people of Dorchester who are digitally literate, the scheme focuses on peer education, meaning the young people teach their peers less knowledgeable than themselves.
Routes is one of 30 locations throughout the country to be selected for this project.
