Guest Speaker To Highlight Human Trafficking
2:58pm 27th June 2013
A support group for women in Dorset is using their annual conference to highlight the issue of human trafficking and slavery.
The Women's Action Network have teamed up with local charity the Purple Teardrop Campaign.
Trafficking is the third largest illicit trade worldwide.
Guest speaker Pauline Monk from the campaign will address volunteers at the general meeting in Dorchester's Borough Gardens house next Wednesday night (3rd July) from 5.30pm.
Pauline said “Slavery still exists today and is referred to as human trafficking. Trafficking is big business, the third largest illicit trade worldwide. Victims of trafficking are enslaved, abused and exploited. The Purple Teardrop Campaign was set up to raise awareness of trafficking and especially of the trafficking of women and girls into the sex trade against their will. We aim to educate the public to be aware of the signs of trafficking and how to report it, to make customers of the sex trade more aware of their contribution to this morally unacceptable trade and to suppress demand. We also help to support rescued victims of trafficking to rebuild their lives away from the world of trafficking.”
