National watchdog, The Consumer Council for Water (CCWater), has praised the decision of Wessex Water to invest an additional £50M at the company's own expense, into improving services for customers.
Wessex Water has become the latest utility firm to respond positively to CCWater's call for water companies to share their financial gains and successes with its customers.
Charles Howeson, Western regional chair for the Consumer Council for Water, told Wessex FM that:
This is good news for Wessex Water's customers. We are very pleased to see Wessex commit to this additional investment, which is something we have been pressing for across the country. This extra money should make a significant difference to the services provided to its customers."
This additional funding will be invested in a range of services across the company, including £30 million to help improve drains and sewers, £6.5 million to boost online services and nearly £2 million on support for customers struggling with debt and other financial issues.
Wessex Water will be contributing to the around £290 million that CCWater has gained in extra investments over the past few years and will be adding to the already 300,000 customers that have been helped with their complaints and enquiries about their local and national sewerage services.
