40 Year Old Swimming Pool To be Sunk

Pool Dorchester 2

12:43pm 3rd July 2013

Demolition work has begun on a swimming pool that's been in Dorchester for around 40 years.

The Swimming Pool building at Thomas Hardye School hasn't been used since the new Dorchester Sports Centre opened last October.

It's now in a bad state of repair.

It was built sometime in the 1970's and contains a four lane pool and a smaller pool. The new centre next door contains a six-lane pool.

Yesterday (2nd July) work began to remove the building and the school told us there are no plans for any structures to go in it's place. We spoke to Tony Day, from Hardye's who said that perhaps a grass area or parking spaces may be put there instead.

The Old School Sports centre will be refurbished once the swimming building has been demolished.

The structure is set to be completely removed by early September this year.
