Don't Let A Disability Stop You Getting Out On The Water
1:07pm 3rd July 2013
People of any age with disabilities will now be able to try sailing thanks to the Chesil Trust on Portland.
For nine years 'Sail for a Fiver' has been funded by the Trust, giving over 10,000 children the chance to try out sailing. The excellent new programme will be open to people with disabilities, of any age, from the local community.
The activities will take place at Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy (WPSNA) which they say is the ideal location for people with disabilities to get out on the water, having hosted the Paralympic stars only last summer.
John Tweed, Chief Executive of the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, says: "Having witnessed children with special needs try sailing for their first ever time at the Academy during Spring, I know that there is incredible value in opening up this opportunity to wider participation. The on water experience will offer a whole new world to those with disabilities and much joy for years to come."
The 2012 sailing venue is not only hosting the new programme, but has also donated £1,500 to start the new 2013 set up.
