Money Down The Drain

Money down the drain - that's how resurfacing work on Alexander Road in Weymouth is being branded by one resident.
But it's not the resurfacing Idris Martin has a problem with.
It's the fact the council have tarmacked over a water leak - which has blistered the road only 24 hours after it's been done.
Speaking to Wessex FM Idris said: " I must admit if it was me I would have had the leak repaired before the new road surface was put on. If whoever is responsible can come up with an answer of why that's been done, probably a matter of cost - it just doesn't make sense to me."
Adrian Norcombe, Dorset County Council construction manager, said:
“We were aware of the water leak and informed Wessex water to get it repaired prior to our surfacing visit. Unfortunately they were not able to respond in time and have assured us that it will be fixed tomorrow (5 July).
“As a precaution we have not surfaced over where the leak is situated and when Wessex Water fix the problem they will reinstate the excavation using identical surfacing material that we are using elsewhere in the locality.
“This surfacing work is part of our defect programme of work. We have over 50 sites in Weymouth and Portland that have been identified as needing significant investment. This requires detailed programming and the surfacing could not be postponed despite our best efforts to arrange for Wessex Water to carry out their repair.”
