Mountjoy School Wins Councils An Award
9:28am 5th July 2013
Dorset County Council and West Dorset District Council were given Best Partnership at the South West Building Excellence Awards.
The awards are organised by LABC (Local Authority Building Control) who singled out Mountjoy School in Beaminster as a shining example of what the Council's co-operation has achieved.
Mountjoy School has been built for 48 pupils with physical and learning disabilities. It has within the building a range of specialist facilities including specialist teaching rooms, hydrotherapy pool and specialist IT, and audio visual and sensory equipment.
LABC Chief Executive Paul Everall told Wessex FM, "Our regional building excellence awards are an opportunity to celebrate good practice. All our winners demonstrated how attention to detail and a positive working relationship with building control departments can achieve high quality and sustainable buildings fit for the future. Our awards are unique because they recognise how the work of local authority surveyors helps to improve building standards and boost sustainability and efficiency."
Mr Everall continued to say that, "This partnership has produced an amazing result at Mountjoy School. It was a highly specialist project with a focus on the needs of the end user right from the start. At the planning stage the design and building control teams visited a recently built special needs school to assess how their design ideas might work in reality. This close working relationship saw the project delivered by September 2012 - on time and within budget. "
