First Day for Beaminster's New Credit Facility
7:58am 11th July 2013
Dorset credit union's returning banking facilities back to Beaminster.
The town's been without a bank since HSBC closed their branch last year, and residents wanting cash had to either use the post office or ask for cashback at the local co-op. The next nearest banks are in Bridport and Lyme Regis.
So the Beaminster and villages local area partnership asked Dorset Credit Union if they would open a service point in the town.
12 volunteers have now been trained and will operate from a base at Yarn Barton centre, offering savings and loans from 10 till 12 each Thursday starting today.
Partnership chair, Rosemary Beeney, who's also helping to run the credit union office, told Wessex FM if the Thursday sessions prove popular they may extend to other days of the week.
