Sir David Attenborough Wants You To Count Butterflies

Sir David Attenborough

11:49am 22nd July 2013

With all the hot weather we've been having lately its hard to remember we had the coldest spring on record which has had a lasting effect on our butterfly population.

Sir David Attenborough has warned that numbers are at an all time low, and is urging us  the public to take part in a butterfly count to assess their recovery over the summer months.

This spring saw the butterflies emerge from their cocoons around 3 weeks late, however the warm weather this month has given them a much needed boost.

Sir David, President of Butterfly Conservation said: "it is not too late. You can ensure that butterflies still bring that sense of magic to our summertime by taking part in the Big Butterfly Count. The count will tell us if the butterflies are recovering after a terrible year."
