Lifeboat Week Launches In Weymouth
12:03am 28th July 2013
Lifeboat Week has been launched in Weymouth, the RNLI's biggest annual fundraiser!
The event runs through until next Saturday and features lifeboat shows, station tours, barbecues and plenty more.
There's going to be a special dedication service at the Lifeboat House tonight. Tomorrow a dramatic rescue display will take place at the Nothe.
Weymouth Station Chairman Tony Beason says it's an important fundraising week: "We're run on donations so we need to try and raise as much money as we can. To run Weymouth Lifeboat station costs around £300,000 a year."
On Monday (29th) on the Nothe starting at 6:15pm, there will be a demonstration by the Lifeboats and Coastguard and Rescue Helicopter along with other family attractions like a good old Tug-o-War, live music, a bar and a hog roast.
A similar event is being run on the Wednesday at Bowleaze Cove.
On Saturday (3rd) the Weymouth All Weather Inshore Lifeboats will open to the public at the Lifeboat Station.
