Great Fire Of 1613 Remembered in Dorchester
8:02am 3rd August 2013
The four hundredth anniversary of Dorchester's Great Fire is remembered in the town this evening.
People in costume of the 1600's will assemble at the Borough Gardens at 7.15 before beginning a procession from 7.30 to Salisbury Fields to light a beacon at 8pm.
Historical records show the blaze broke out at a baker's on the afternoon of Friday the 6th of August 1613, but despite considerable damage to houses and two churches, there was no loss of life.
