Nurse Inspired To Run A Marathon
10:03am 11th August 2013
A conversation with a patient has inspired a Dorset nurse to run a marathon.
Karen Samuel works at the Trimar Hospice in Weymouth.
When one of the patients she cares for told her they regretted never running a marathon, Karen decided to take on the challenge herself.
She'll be taking part in the Bournemouth Marathon Festival in October, raising money for Weldmar.
Karen is now training, under the watchful eye of Andy Sloan (andysloanfitness.com), as well as getting nutrition advice in preparation for race day.
Karen said, "I am running three to four times a week as well as undertaking some circuit training to complement my running. The runs vary in length and intensity and certainly test my physical capabilities as well as being mentally challenging. I am raising money at the same time, and need to raise a minimum of £500. I would really like to raise at least £1,000 to enable Weldmar to continue with their valuable work. As a nurse I see what a difference the charity makes to local people."
Karen can be sponsored online at www.justgiving.com/run-kazzsam-run or sponsorship can be taken into Trimar Hospice in Weymouth, where there are sponsorship forms.
Karen said, "Every donation helps, no matter how small, so please help me raise money for this very worthy cause".
