Vintage Train Steams into Dorchester Auctioneers
9:04am 13th August 2013
Over £10,000 worth of unique, vintage model steam engines are going under the hammer at Duke's Auctioneers in Dorchester today. (13 August)
The largest model in the collection, painstakingly put together over many hours by master craftsmen, drives a large wheel over three feet in diameter.
Often seen at the Great Dorset Steam Fair near Blandford, the Cox family of Weymouth, who own the engines, have decided to part with the collection.
Duke's Auctioneer Matthew Denney commented:
"Everyone who sees these models comments on the fine quality and the exacting standards to which they have been constructed. We seldom come across heavy machinery of this type these days, and most of us have very little knowledge of the engineering skills required to make such beautiful working models. These are lovely examples of the engineer's art and I am sure we will find many potential buyers."
