Repairs To Swanage Pier

Image Pier Damage - soon after storm 1

12:03am 18th August 2013

Repairs are underway on the damage sustained to Swanage pier after a storm hit in March.

After a night of raging seas the structure was left on the verge of collapse.

After the amazing efforts of the local community and the donation of £39,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the repairs can now begin and are due to finish in October.

Derek Tarrant, Chairman of the Swanage Pier Trust commented: "The pier has received an unprecedented level of support since the appeal began in March and we have been overwhelmed by the public generosity".

In addition to the repairs, a project to educate the public on the heritage of the pier, and how the repairs were carried out is also being put into place.
