TUC Attack On Free Schools

The South West TUC has launched a scathing attack on Free Schools.

Swanage Free School was one of 7 to open this term.

Andy Woolley from the TUC has called them an entirely unnecessary expense.

He said:

"The money and energy that is being put into Free Schools is simply wrong. Despite the claims there is no evidence to show that they raise educational standards, in the first tranche of free schools to be inspected by Ofsted a quarter were judged to 'require improvement' or in one case, to be inadequate. It is difficult to see the logic of throwing yet more money at a system which clearly does not provide a magic solution to educational standards.  The Government needs to stop this deception and focus on an education system which provides for all not the few."
