More People Sharing Lifts to Work in Dorset

five ways car share 2

7:56am 9th October 2013

If you spend a lot of time and money driving around Dorset you might like to know it's officially National Liftshare week (7th -11th of October).

Over 3,500 people in the county are signed up to the free carsharedorset website which allows you to see who's going your way and who you could share a lift with. According to Dorset County Council these figures are up 40% from last year.

Dorset County Council are keen to encourage more locals to sign up, County Council Cabinet member for Environment, Hilary Cox, told Wessex FM, "Running a car has mounting costs, in terms of petrol, maintenance and parking expenses. Car sharing makes perfect sense. It's a fantastic way to save money, reduce congestion on our roads and is a sociable way to travel. I would encourage everyone simply to register their journey and do a search. No matter where you live, you'll be surprised to find how many other people are going your way."
