Blandford Parents Receive Apology Over Nursery Closure
11:56am 22nd October 2013
Dozens of people attended a meeting with Councillors last night (Monday 21st October) over the closure of Blandford's only children's nursery.
Parents were issued an apology for the "unthoughtful" letters they received notifying them the hub and kids club "Oscars" was to close next March (2013). Revised letters will be sent to local parents and those Mums and Dads on the nursery waiting list who weren't informed originally.
Dorset County Council says they can't afford to run the nursery and club after losing a government grant that paid for the set-up and running of the services, and due the way in which the services were created they can't simply be taken over, they have to close.
A band of parents have set up a campaign group and say they've already received interest from private companies about setting up a new provision for the town.
County Council say they will "work hard" to encourage and meet with private childcare companies to try and get an alternative service for Blandford following the closures.
