A man is still missing after getting into difficulty in the water at Durdle Door.
A major search operation was launched by the Coastguard after they were alerted to a person struggling in the sea yesterday at around 4:10pm (Wednesday 23rd October).
2 other male swimmers, who were with the missing man, had struggled ashore and needed medical treatment.
The RNLI, Police Helicopter, South West Ambulance and the Navy all joined the mission to find the missing man. They were stood down at around 7pm due to failing light.
The Coastguard has told Wessex FM they'll resume their search today (Thursday 24th October).
A spokesperson said the sea around Durdle Door yesterday was rough and not ideal for swimming.
Ken Francis from the RNLI said their allweather lifeboat was called in to join the intense search;
"Several helicopters and the Coastguard cliff rescue teams from Weymouth and Lulworth were also called in to aid in the search.
An intensive search of the beaches and sea around the whole area around Durdle Door was carried out until darkness fell and the search was called off. With nothing found the lifeboats returned to station just after 7 pm."
