8:16am 25th October 2013

There's concern over a lack of affordable homes in South Dorset.

A new study by the Shelter has revealed some shocking figures.

The charities report into the current state of the housing market and its affordability for first time buyers found more young families were being priced out of the market.

12 hundred people are looking to get on to the property ladder in West Dorset, Shelter says their investigation found only 32 affordable homes.

They found a similar situation in Weymouth and Portland with only 5% of homes for sale "affordable" for first time buyers.

The Shelter charity is calling on the government to do more to help first time buyers. Members say; "It will not only affect future generations hoping for a stable home, but also the thousands of families already facing an everyday struggle to pay their rent or mortgage."
