Final Plans Revealed For Historic Hotel

Lyme Regis

8:12am 31st October 2013

Final plans will be revealed in December for a Dorset hotel which once had guests including J.R.R. Tolkien and Jane Austen.

Palmers Brewery will present their ideas for the Three Cups Redevelopment to Lyme Regis Town Council.

The final plans take into consideration the feedback received from townspeople at the second public consultation in June 2013.

Since that consultation, Palmers say they have been working closely with the immediate local residents to ensure that they are satisfied as far as possible with the fine details of the scheme as it affects them.

The scheme is likely to cost £5m and the plans include:
- Conservation and renovation of the historic Three Cups building fronting on to Broad Street, incorporating a shop on the ground floor and flats above.
- Landmark new restaurant with letting rooms in the old car park at the back of the site. Some of the rooms will have wheelchair access.
- Access path through to Langmoor Gardens.
- Residential units, necessary to fund some of the cost of the scheme.
- Car parking for the residential units.

If planning permission were granted in 2014, Palmers would hope to start building in 2015 after completing the necessary preparatory work. The building phase is likely to take 18 months and will be planned so as to cause minimum disruption to the town. The project could be finished in 2016.
