LISTEN: Dorchester Woman Defies Doctors Odds and Survives Cancer Ordeal
7:43am 1st November 2013
A Dorchester woman's been telling Wessex FM how she only had a 20% chance of surviving an operation to treat her for pancreatic cancer.
Susan Rostron was diagnosed with the disease in 2011 - she's now fully recovered.
With the disease set to replace breast cancer as the UK's 4th biggest killer - Pancreatic Cancer UK is asking the Government during a special awareness month to do more to help early diagnosis.
50% of pancreatic cancer cases in England are made via emergency presentation often resulting in late diagnosis and poor patient experience.
It's the 5th most common cause of cancer death in the UK.
Susan says unless she had pushed her doctors for a second opinion - she wouldn't be alive to tell the tale today.
