A CD released by a Community group will help feed over 2,000 people in Weymouth this Christmas.
The first copy of 'It's Christmas Time in Weymouth' was presented to the Weymouth and Portland Mayor Ray Banham this morning (Wednesday the 6th November) in his parlour by the One Voice choir, to thank him for his support.
The One Voice choir joined seven local primary schools together to sing the main song on the album written by the Chairman of the Choir, John Ellis, the CD also contains four other festive tracks.
Proceeds from the sales of the CD will be split between local Children's centres and the Weymouth Food bank.
Wessex FM spoke to Bob Mockett at the presentation who started the food bank up with his wife just over a year ago. Bob declared they were delighted to be one of the charities picked to receive the money, but stated that the awareness raised would be just as important, "What we really want is we want people to know about the food bank. We had recently a young mum come in with three children under five who didn't know we existed, and it was her Doctor who had referred her to us because she wasn't eating properly."
He continued to say that it was especially important in the run up to Christmas to help lesser-off people in Weymouth, "when we first opened we didn't realise there was this need in Weymouth, but it's just grown. We will probably be providing food to about 2,000 people at the end of this year."
Mayor Ray Banham was very happy with his copy stating that because he had the evening off he would go home and listen to it tonight!
CD's will go on sale in the next couple of days and can be bought online at: onevoiceweymouth.com
