Over 110 guests attended the annual Weymouth & Portland Chamber of Commerce Autumn Ball on Saturday 19 October to raise funds for the RNLI.
The event, held at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, was a great success, raising over £1700 for the charity via a raffle and auction. Prizes and auction items donated included dinner with Richard Drax at The Houses of Parliament and a unique one-off sand sculpture prize from Sandworld, which was snapped up by Shalim of The Balti House, Weymouth.
Shalim and his staff also provided the themed catering and arranged for a troupe of Bollywood Dancers to entertain the audience during the evening. The colourful and energetic displays mixed traditional dance with modern Bollywood styles.
The main organiser of the event was WPCC executive committee member Fiona Penny of Sunflowers in Weymouth, who themed the venue with a one-night-only display. Fiona said: “I am so pleased to hear the positive feedback about the event which went so well.” She added: “Our thanks go to Shalim and his staff for catering for this event and to the sailing academy team for providing a wonderful venue.”
Chamber President, Mark Blunden, said: “My thanks go to Fiona for the hard work and attention to detail taken to make this fantastic event happen.” He added: “And a huge thank you to all the businesses, large and small, who contributed prizes and cash to our chosen charity, the RNLI.”
