Veteran Attacked On Remembrance Sunday

Dorset Police Car 2

7:18am 15th November 2013

Weymouth Police are looking for a man after a pensioner claims he was attacked after he'd taken part in a Remembrance Ceremony at the weekend.

The alleged incident happened at the Jubilee Retail Car Park in the Melcombe Regis area of town, just before 1pm on Sunday (10th November).

The victim, a 66-year-old man, was sitting in his car when he was approached by a man who then punched him the face.

Police say the elderly man has been left shaken but not seriously hurt. They believe the alleged offender may have entered the Aldi supermarket moments after the incident.

Sergeant Neil Wood, of Weymouth police, said: "I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact Dorset Police urgently.

"The victim had just returned to his vehicle after taking part in a Remembrance Day parade, and has been left extremely shaken.

"The incident happened in the daylight hours in a public car park, so I am confident someone may have seen it take place.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested and released on Police bail.

Any witnesses should contact Dorset Police on 101.
