Free Parking For One Day Only
8:25am 26th November 2013
For the first time a "one day only" initiative to support local traders is coming to Weymouth.
Small Business Saturday, a popular event in the United States, is where Council run car parks are free for one day only, then it's back to normal tariffs and the parking wardens peering in through your windscreen to check you have a valid ticket.
It's going ahead on Saturday 7th of December.
Weymouth Borough says the special day is to help highlight how important smaller shops are to the local economy AND local community.
Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Transport and Infrastructure brief holder Cllr Christine James said:
"We always look at ways of supporting small businesses in the town and it is great that we are able to make borough council-run car parks in Weymouth free on 7 December to support the event.
"Free parking on Saturday 7 December is an added extra to the borough council's free evening and overnight parking scheme which was introduced on 1 November."
Cllr Ian Munro-Price, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Economic Development brief holder, said:
"The event is a chance for small business to showcase themselves and encourage residents to shop locally. This event is perfectly timed for people to do their Christmas shopping."
"This festive weekend starts with Victorian Night on Friday 6 December and this means there will be free parking in borough council-run car parks from 6pm Friday evening until 9.30am Sunday morning. I urge people to take advantage of the free parking and to come and support the local businesses in Weymouth."
