A teacher from Portland has been jailed for making indecent images of children.
44-year-old Roger Bailey of Hambro Road, Portland was found guilty at Dorchester Crown Court yesterday (28th November), of 21 counts of making indecent photographs and 3 counts of possessing extreme pornographic images.
The former Wey Valley School teacher has been jailed for 16 months and will be placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
He was suspended with immediate effect following allegations made in May 2012. Mr Bailey tendered his resignation soon afterwards.
Speaking to Wessex FM Principal Phil Thomas said he felt angered and betrayed by the ex-teacher;
"I was shocked and angered when I learned of the charges because at no point had concerns been raised by either staff or students at the school, however his actions could have reflected negatively on the school.
There has been no indication that he has used school computer equipment in the course of his activities and on his appointment he was given clearance through the CRB checking service.
From hearing the initial allegations I considered a custodial sentence to be the most likely and appropriate outcome and am pleased that he will not be in a position to endanger children in the future."
