Dorchester Business Helping Children Struck Down by Ilness
8:16am 2nd December 2013
In Dorset there are around 400 children with a life-limiting illness, and now a wine bar in Dorchester are trying to help them.
Durnovaria on South Street are fundraising to get specialised accommodation for terminally ill children in Dorset County Hospital.
The unit they would like to get would be known as a 'Gully's Place Suite' and would be supported by the Gully's Place Trust Fund, who have already created a suite like the proposed one in Poole Hospital in 2010. It would provide a calm environment with specialised staff supporting children and their families.
Durnovaria are holding a Christmas Quiz on Wednesday the 11th of December, the entry fee is £2 per person with a maximum of 6 per team. They've also got a raffle currently going on in the bar, with prizes including a signed poster of the England Ashes cricket team and a signed Billy Bragg CD. Winners will be drawn the same night as the quiz, and all proceeds from both will go towards creating a 'Gully's Place Suite'.
For more information pop into the bar itself.
The Gully's Place Trust Fund was developed to support terminally ill children and their families from diagnosis to death and provide after care, including bereavement support.
