Dorset Steam Fair Procession Smashes Record
8:22am 2nd December 2013
A group of steamroller enthusiasts is celebrating after squashing their own world record at the Dorset Steam Fair.
103 vintage steamrollers paraded around the event at Tarrant Hinton this summer (2013).
Their previous record was 32 vehicles.
The organisers were awarded their Guinness World Record title last week (25-29 Nov).
In the words of Martin Oliver, Managing Director, "103 steam rollers rolled themselves down in history, with the icing on the cake being the breaking of our own World Record for the greatest number of steam rollers going over a newly laid piece of road."
Fittingly, the roller that actually broke the record was "Lord Jellicoe", a Fowler that belonged to Martin's late father Michael Oliver, the founder of the Great Dorset Steam Fair. It made history when it passed over the "new" road as number 33 in the procession.
