Dorchester School Expansion Plans Go on Display
12:16pm 3rd December 2013
Plans to expand a Dorchester School, to make way for more children, are on display for the first time this afternoon (Tuesday 3rd December).
Manor Park C of E has room for around 370 youngsters but an increasing number of parents want their children to attend there.
Manor Park Head teacher Melanie Cridland says they've had to turn families away because they're oversubscribed;
"We've had some problems where we've had to turn children away from our school whose parent’s first choice is Manor Park because we haven't got space to accommodate them. So this expansion will be lovely that we'll be able to accommodate all the children who want to come to our school."
The local authority is planning the expansion to increase capacity to 450 pupils.
Melanie says it can be tricky teaching in the small school;
"One of the main things that will be extended is the school hall. Currently at the moment when we're all in the hall my back is against the wall and I don't have much space at all. It's very difficult to put on performances to parents but we are gonna have an expansion to that hall which will be fantastic."
Expansion plans go on display at the School from 4pm this afternoon, until 6pm.
