Body Found in Search for Missing Bridport Man

Phillip Guppy, 3 December 2013

4:43pm 4th December 2013

Police say a body found in the River Britt is thought to be that of a missing man from Bridport.

Phillip Guppy was last seen at the Crown Inn at West Bay Road on Sunday night (1st December). He left at around 11pm and it's believed he set off to walk back to his home on Alexandra Road.

A mass search involving the force helicopter, specialist rescue teams and the coastguard ensued to try and find the missing 62 year old.

At the time Dorset Police described his disappearance as "completely out of character" and said they were concerned for his welfare.

This afternoon Inspectors said they found a body earlier today (4th December) in the River Britt, near Palmers Brewery, and they believe it to be that of Mr Guppy.

An area around the river has been cordoned off.

Next of kin and the coroner have been informed.
