Dorset Blue Vinny Served Up To Chelsea Pensioners

Cheese Chelsea Pensioners

9:05am 5th December 2013

Dorset Blue Vinny has been served up to Chelsea Pensioners.

Dorset Cheesemaker, Dorset Blue was invited to the annual Ceremony of the Christmas Cheeses at the Royal Hospital.

The special ceremony dates back to 1692.

The tradition began when the Royal hospital asked a local cheesemaker to provide veterans from the British Army with cheese as a Christmas Treat.

Sandy Wilkie, Chairman of The Dairy Council said: "We are very pleased that once again the men and women of the Royal Hospital will enjoy 200 kg kilos of fine quality British cheeses throughout this Christmas period.  We are always very proud of the generosity that British cheesemakers show at this time of year donating cheeses to these much loved war veterans. We are also delighted to have Anton Du Beke and Erin Boag as our guests, who truly entertained the Chelsea Pensioners today."
