Weymouth And Portland On The Road To Economic Recovery
9:00am 13th December 2013
There are positive signs of economic recovery for businesses in Weymouth and Portland, according to the president of the Chamber Of Commerce.
Mark Blunden was speaking at the organisations Christmas lunch.
But he also added that firms are still waiting to feel the full benefit of the Olympic legacy - but there is optimism about proposed projects for North Quay and the pavilion Peninsula.
South Dorset MP Richard Drax was guest of honour at the lunch.
The local Member of Parliament expressed his appreciation for the commitment and determination showed by owners and staff of the firms present at the lunch, who represented the many businesses, large and small, in the area.
Mayor Ray Banham and Mayoress Pam Nixon were also present and the Mayor said a few words of his own to thank those present for their contribution to the economy of Weymouth and Portland.
Richard Drax also used his address to the Chamber to announce that Sir Digby Jones would be coming to Weymouth in March 2014, to open a one-day apprenticeship conference that the MP is organising in conjunction with Weymouth College.
