Dorset Fire Authority Could Merge With Wiltshire & Swindon

Dorset fire authority could be merging with Wiltshire and Swindon to cut costs.
Both fire authorities have come up with a business plan to combine the services in two years time.
Following government cuts Dorset Fire authority and Wiltshire & Swindon are looking to join together so they can continue running frontline services to the same standard.
In a joint statement from Cllr Rebecca Knox, Chairman of Dorset, and Cllr Graham Payne, chairman of Wiltshire & Swindon they said their plan to combine in 2016 would maintain emergency response standards and make them more resilient.
They also said they understand it's an uncertain time for staff and will be working closely with them over the coming months.
Dorset's joint command and control centre may also be moved to Wiltshire in 2015.
Meanwhile the Fire Brigades Union in Dorset and Wiltshire has urged "extreme caution" of the potential merger.
They say the idea of one emergency fire control room covering both counties is untenable.
