Win A Parking Space In Dorchester
12:04am 22nd December 2013
Dorchester BID levy payers can enter into a draw to win a parking space permit.
They'll have to pay for the parking - but the new spaces have been given up by the new owners of Stratton House.
Dorchester BID's project director Phil Gordon earlier this year to investigate the possibility of using some of their currently unused parking spaces on their land. "When the BID approached my company I thought, what a good idea! We are delighted to be in Dorchester and very much look forward to an exciting future for the Stratton House site and surrounding properties in which we have an interest. We are committed to Dorchester and pleased to be able to do this to help some of our new businesses neighbours in town".
Phil Gordon commented "Originally I asked if there was a chance of using the main car park behind Stratton house itself but although David was keen to help, after making some enquiries we soon realised that it was a non-starter. It's very frustrating but using that large car park (even in some kind of not for profit, non-business way) would have invoked a massive cost of possibly over £60,000 in rates and there were also crippling insurance ramification together making the idea at the moment impossible.
David suggested that we could however use another smaller car park as a pilot to see how it went which was great news! I have not given up on the idea of getting the main car park available but it would have to rely on WDDC getting a bit creative and looking at a way around the rates issues if there was one".
DBID has asked their BID levy payers if they are interested in a place in the car park but as spaces are limited there will be a draw on Christmas Eve to pick the first users. There will be a cost involved but it will be in line with current all-day parking in town.
Permits will be issued for two months and then drawn again for the next two months to give everyone a fair chance of having at least some use of a car park. Phil Gordon comments "If you are a BID levy payer, would like a space and have not yet done so, please email us to be in the draw to firstname.lastname@example.org Every extra space we can find in town is another space in the town's car parks freed up for a visitor or shopper"
