More Retained Firefighters Wanted In Dorset
8:16am 30th December 2013
Dorset Fire and Rescue have renewed their appeal for more retained firefighters and community volunteers.
It follows a busy weekend of incidents which included using hydraulic cutting equipment to release two people from a Vauxhall Corsa and a Ford C Max which collided near Winterborne Stickland in icy conditions.
The pair were described as 'medically trapped', needing to be cut out due to the injuries they sustained, which necessitated Dorset Fire and Rescue's intervention.
Crews also attended a chimney fire on Channel View Road on Portland and a vehicle fire on the at Grimstone, attended by retained fire fighters from Maiden Newton. The A37 was closed for a time during the incident.
DFRS are looking to recruit more retained firefighters who live within 4 minutes travel time of the fire station from where they would respond to call outs, and more firefighters are needed.
