MP And Author Visit School In Anti Bullying Campaign
7:15am 17th January 2014
A Dorchester School is due to welcome their local MP to talk about bullying this morning (Monday 17th January).
Pupils at St Osmund's are having a special reading from a local author and West Dorset MP Oliver Letwin will join them.
Writer Adrian Beckingham, who organises the sessions, writes about magical characters and the issues surrounding bullying.
Adrian will dress up and read to the whole school and will then discuss the stories messages with pupils with MP Oliver Letwin.
He says writing and reading can really help youngsters deal with bullying and other issues they may be facing;
"Storytelling and creative writing is a really great way to address important issues. A lot of children may not want to talk about their own experiences, whereas they can do it in a non-personal way, through a fictional story which is what this is all about."
Adrian has written a number of children's books including the popular The King of the Things. You can learn more about his work and sessions in Schools here.
