Get medical advice early, especially for the very young, elderly or those with existing medical conditions.
The call's from the NHS in Dorset as they look to ease pressure on local Accident and Emergency centres.
They say medical intervention at an early stage can mean prompt attention which avoids the need to go to A&E as an emergency.
They say use NHS 111 for advice and medical help when its not a life threatening situation, pharmacies for headaches, coughs, colds and upset stomachs, GP's for persistent pain from backache, coughs and earache, or minor injury units for sprains, strains and minor injuries.
