Fall In South West Employment Rate

8:10am 21st January 2014

Dorset and the South West's economy may not be picking up as well as other areas of the UK.

That's according to the TUC in the South West which has released figures claiming the region's lead over others in the UK for having the best employment rate is being reduced.

In 2008 the employment rate for the region was 76.5%, 4.1% ahead of the national average.

Now, five years on in the South West its 74.4%, only 2.6% higher than the UK average.

The TUC says pay's also been squeezed here more than most. In that same time period, pay went up 9.6% nationally, but by only 5.7% here.
