Government Inspector Calls Meeting Over Housing Plan
7:33am 22nd January 2014
How and where to build more housing in West Dorset and Weymouth and Portland will be considered today.
The two local councils have been told to meet by the Government planning inspector.
The Inspector has requested Weymouth and Portland and West Dorset District Council meet to look at their draft local plan.
It sets out a long term strategy to meet future housing, employment and leisure needs.
But by forcing this meeting today, Leader of West Dorset District Council Robert Gould says the message they're getting is that in terms of housing, they haven't been ambitious enough.
He says he's frustrated with the delay this intervention may cause; both councils have followed a professional process and have taken into account the views of local people.
The meeting is being held this morning at South Walks in Dorchester.
