Council Leader Defends Doubling Car Park Charge
7:40am 31st January 2014
Doubling the cost of parking in a Dorchester Car Park was the right decision according to the leader of the District Council.
Parking at Little Fairfield will increase from £2 a day to £4 in April.
The council say they're just bringing charges in line with Top o' Town.
There's been anger from the business community but Council Leader Robert Gould says they were involved in the initial discussions.
He says short stay charges have been frozen for the last 8 years.
"We are not using it as a way of filling our financial gap. We're very much keen to support the local business community to make Dorchester a place where people want to come to do business, go to work and shop."
"We will of course listen to business concerns, but we are quite confident we made a sound decision."
