Increase In Assaults Against Ambulance Staff
9:28am 13th February 2014
There's been an increase in the number of reported assaults against South Western Ambulance staff in the past 12 months.
There were 104 reports of physical abuse to front line crews between February last year and this January.
Two staff were based in Bridport, two in Weymouth and one at Wareham ambulance station.
73 incidents were reported to Police and 22 people were arrested.
Anne Payne, Health, Safety and Security Manager with SWASFT, said: "All reports of violence and aggression towards crews are taken seriously. Where there is sufficient evidence the Trust place a warning marker on the patient's address and send a letter to the patient regarding their behaviour and the consequences should their behaviour continue."
