A Consultant Cardiologist at Dorset County Hospital is the first in the UK to implant the very latest pacemaker.
Dr Tim Edwards performed the surgery on a 52-year-old man.
The pacemaker is the world's smallest system and lasts longer than any other of its type and has been made by medical technology company Sorin.
It's also compatible with MRI which means once fitted, patients can still have MRI scans safely and easily.
And the device has the added benefit of being able to screen for sleep apnea.
It shows that Dorset County Hospital is leading the way with new pacemaker technology which will give people a new lease of life.
