Pupils Have Say on Burton Bradstock's Future
11:28am 4th March 2014
School children in Burton Bradstock have been helping shape the future of their local village.
Year 6 pupils have been looking at things like character, history, environment and traffic.
Their ideas have all been noted down as part of the villages Draft Parish Plan, a document that sets out the main policies and projects for the next 5 years.
The Burton Bradstock School pupils discussed how the village’s character and history can be preserved while tackling sensitive issues like the environment and housing.
Headteacher Mrs Staple was very encouraged by the exercise, 'It was great that the children could feed into the parish plan as it's really important that young people have a voice. The two classes of older children spent some time thinking about the various projects proposed and were able to say what they thought was most important to them and the village'.
Graham Moody, Chair of the Parish Council, added that "The draft Parish Plan is the culmination of 2 years of consultation events and input from over 250 local residents. We are keen to use the Plan as a mandate for getting on and tackling practical local projects".
The Draft Parish Plan is available onlinehere, with print copies available in the Village Library, Reading Room and Post Office.
The consultation period closes on 1 May 2014 and response forms are available with the Plan.
