Could Dorchester Prison Become A Hotel?

Meetings have been held over the future of Dorchester's closed prison but the Ministry of Justice is keeping tight lipped on the details.
Speaking exclusively to Wessex FM the MOJ confirmed they were in discussions but unwilling to comment further at this point in time.
The Victorian jail was closed 4 months ago because it's too old to modernise and more money is being spent on new super jails elsewhere in the country.
Dorchester Chamber President Alison Moore told us it would serve well as quirky hotel or a tourist attraction. An old prison has in Oxfordshire has been transformed into a hotel back in the 90's and it's been a resounding success;
"Both the location and the beautiful old site next to the river, and combined with the architecture, it's an interesting building and it would be good if we could at least preserve some of it in its current format. For me the idea of a hotel like the one in Oxford would really make something of that."
"I stayed in the one in Oxford and think it's quite fascinating there's also one in Exeter which was the old Eye Hospital. It's quirky and if they had good service and good food why not? It's a brilliant location in Dorchester because you can walk to anything and its minutes from the station."
Alison thinks using social media, like Facebook and Twitter, would be a good idea to ask local people what they'd like to see happen to the old prison in the county town;
"It's a really cost effective way to find out locally what gaps are there. There are probably some really interesting people in Dorchester who know some really interesting things about the history about the site and location. It would be interesting to see what we could build on those."
