Young Recruits Needed To Check Up On The Police

8:19am 12th March 2014

Dorset Police are at Weymouth College today looking for some new recruits, but these volunteers will be checking up on them.

Young adults are needed to become Independent Custody Visitors.

Their role is to make unannounced visits to inspect Police cells and check on the welfare of those being detained.

The County's Police and Crime Commission wants to attract younger people into the role.

Martyn Underhill told Wessex FM: "A large proportion of those detained are under the age of 30.  I would like to welcome all members of the public who are keen to help the Force deliver on this aspect of the Police and Crime plan, particularly young adults and minority ethnic minority groups.  This will enable ICVs to be representative of the detainees they are visiting."

Those interested in volunteering should go to Weymouth College, Cranford Avenue, Weymouth at 1pm.
