Warning After Heating Oil Thefts In Dorset
8:33am 12th March 2014
If you use heating oil for your home Dorset Police are urging you to protect your tank with an alarm.
The advice comes after two recent thefts.
250 litres of heating oil was taken overnight on Friday last week from a home in Chilfrome.
The second theft happened in the early hours on Wednesday morning from a property in Maiden Newton, where 700 litres of oil was taken.
That's the second time that home's been targeted in two months.
Dorset Police say there are various alarms available. These range from an alarmed padlock, which can be fitted to the entrance hatch, to more sophisticated alarms that your safer neighbourhood team can advise on.
Alarmed padlocks costs around £15 and details of what they look like and how to get one can be found online on the crime prevention pages of www.streetwise.org.uk
Other low cost options include screening your tank, with fencing or vegetation, so it's not visible from the road.
