A group of volunteers, who provide vital support to people living with diabetes in Dorset, has been recognised for their hard work.
The Diabetes UK West Dorset Local Group, has won the voluntary group prize at the charities Inspire Awards.
They help people affected with education, support, advice and social opportunities in the area.
They hold regular meetings in Dorchester which often involve talks from healthcare professionals to help members learn about the best ways to keep healthy and avoid some of the serious complications of diabetes, which include problems with the eyes, kidneys and feet.
Diabetes UK West Dorset Local Group chair Henry Bartlett said: "We are all delighted to win this award. This group has a great, hard working committee and a big membership with well attended meetings. We have good relationships with our local healthcare professionals as we really want to improve care for all people with diabetes in the area. Our six meetings a year are open to all, and we are always delighted to see new people attend."
Diabetes UK has more than 570 registered volunteers in the South West region, many of which also belong to the charity's 23 groups. To find out more about becoming a volunteer for Diabetes UK, or about your local group, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01823 448260.
